|
Boat Location: Huntington Beach, CA (in Huntington Harbor) Asking Price: $39,000 (check Yachtworld.com and you will see only 7 other 28's in Calif. - comparable boats going for $50,000 and up) Model: 1979 Flybridge Sportfish Length: 28' Beam: 11' 2" Draft: 3'0" Fuel Tank: 160 Gal Fiberglass Fresh Water Tank: 50 Gal (I need to verify size) Engines: Twin 228 HP Mercruisers (freshwater cooled) with Borg Warner Velvet Drive Xmissions Engine History: Both engines run very well. They have been well maintained and they fire right up immediatly. They are also very quiet. When I bought the boat earlier this year, I spent nearly $3,000 on the engines. I have a receipt that explains what exactly was done. I hired Clyde Kent and his partner John to completly go through both engines. They replaced several gaskets, hoses, filters, pumps and several other items to bring the engines to peak performance. I also have receipts from the prior owner on all work done on the boat. The hour meters do not work on the engines. I have kept a detailed log of the oil consumption of the engines. I am burning about 1 quart of oil per engine for every 100 miles. I just finished changing the oil on the engines as well as fuel filters and spark plugs, zincs etc. The great thing about the engines on this boat is that they are extremely easy to maintain on compared to many boats. The engines are very accessible and the center hatch on this boat lifts right off providing a large and spacious work area.
Boat History & Condition: Julia is a Coast Guard documented vessel. She is a lean, mean fishing machine. The flybridge on this boat is actually bigger than the legendary 31-foot older sibling to this boat. I take a lot of kids out fishing and I have had four kids sitting with my up on the flybridge -- it is amazing how wide it is. The 28 Bertram's 16,000# weight and large 11' beam makes her one of the most stable, smooth riding boats in her class. There is a real pride of ownership that comes with the Bertram name. Bertram is one of the most prestigious names in the powerboating industry and one of only a handful of manufacturers that have been in existance sine the early 1960s. The bullet-proof construction of the 28-Bertram under the deck is what makes these boats continue to hold their value year after year. She is a very dry boat -- prior to my purchase I thought I would have to put isenglass around the flybridge, but it is not necessary - I never got wet once on this boat and I have been out in some very choppy days. I am the 4th owner. The boat has been very well maintained throughout her ownership. The last owner was the manager of the Hoff's Hut restaurant chain and dumped a lot of money into the boat which I have benefited from. The key things I have done to the boat have included fixing a few very minor items that came up on the survey, buying a new GPS system, updating the anchor windlass and anchor rode system, re-plumbing the bait tank, installing new lights and installing a new pump for the bait tank. The boat features original gelcoat that is in great condition. The upholstery is in good condition - it could use a good cleaning. The bolster cushions are in great shape. The flybridge seat cushions are in good condition, but could stand to be re-covered to enhance the beauty of the boat. The teak trim and teak swimstep on the boat needs attention. Fortunately there is not much to deal with, but it just needs to be brought back to life. The wiring on the boat is what sold me. The prior owner had installed a very expensive switch panel -- everything done professionally. I have had no problems at all with wiring. The batteries are like new. The charger is top-of-the line. AC system works great. I have seen boats where the wiring is a total "rat's nest". That is not the case on this boat. As mentioned above, I am in no rush to sell Julia -- she is my dream boat. I'll only sell her if a firm offer floats by.
Speed of Boat: The boat cruises at around 21 - 26 mph at 3200 RPM - speed obviously depends largely on sea conditions and adjustment of the trim tabs (which work great). Features / Amenities: - 160 gallon fiberglass fuel tank - Fresh water tank - Autopilot - Anchor Windlass with brand new anchor and chain - Brand New Garmin Color GPS with Blue-Chart and depth finder compatibility - Furuno color Depth Finder - Furuno Radar - VHF Radio - Backup handheld GPS - Large fiberglass bait tank - Bennett Trim Tabs - Outriggers (don't know model) - Dual bait bags - Saltwater washdown system - Built-in hot water shower (built into stern - for divers to rinse off with) - Spacious head with sink - Kitchenette with sink and microwave - Fully upgraded fire safety devices, first aid kits, emergency flares etc... - New 30 amp battery charging system - Dinette - High quality canvas covers for entire boat - Bimini top with fairly new canvas. - Large V-berth - Ample storage area There are several other items that come with the boat - too numerous to list.
