Here's
a few pics of my 74 Bertram 28. I"ve had her ("Diversion")
since July of this year. Since then, we've cruised her
some 400 miles, and a lot of that in 6 to 8 ft. seas. (Love Florida during
thunderstorm season!) The boat handles exceptionally well in high seas
and is very stable. During those rough trips home we never once felt Threatened
by
the weather or sea conditions.

Diversion is powered by twin 302 Ford/Mercruisers. She will top out at
just under 30 knots, and cruises best at around
20 knots @ 3400 rpm. She sucks fuel at that speed however and am still
trying to figure out where the best economy is. Looks like a flow scan
system is in order for her. I have heard it a hundred times, that gas
engines in a Bertram 28 or Bertram 31 require a very large billfold! I
think I see Yanmars in the future for her.

As for work I've had to do so far to her. I've replaced Engine water recirculation
pumps and sea water pumps. (All shot), Rebuilt 1 Holly 4-barrell, and
replaced the other. All of which looked maybe rebuilt original. I have
found some good sources for older Mercruiser parts, but have not yet got
into needing original Bertram 28 parts other than rebuilding her steering
tie rod.
All
for now,
Capt. John League
